Cases & Crumbs!

This was shot in the studio and took a lot of time to make it look randomly good not too staged but not so off center that it didn’t sit with your eye level. I love the DOF in this image and when asking for advice from my tutor he suggested to add crumbs, which worked really well, it was missing something but with that extra detail it really does make the picture.

Cupcake

When I shot this cupcake at Cakes By Becky I knew I wanted it off center so I could make this image landscape across two pages. I loved the wooden style worktop and thought it would look good together. I liked all the quirky tea saucers too then added a fork. I shot this with natural daylight I admit it does look on the dark side next time I will use a reflector to add more highlights.

Icing Cake

I know my tutor wanted me to take a picture of an iced cake and the slice of it but I looked all over for an iced cake and couldn’t find one so I used this shot from the Cakes by Becky’s shoot where she is smoothing down the icing on the cake. I do like this image but I think when I go back to this project I will take a picture of the inside of a white cake possibly shoot in the studio so its very clean and white.

Rolling Icing

Another interactive shot, I like this, as it feels really “homey” even though it’s back at the Cakes by Becky business. She’s rolling out icing. I like the small details in this image like the icing sugar fingermarks on the worktop bench.

Organic Butter

This shot was again more raw ingredients, which would sit nicely with the cakes, although it was shot in the studio. My tutor suggested using brown paper to make the butter look more urban and home made. I liked this idea cause my work isn’t about brands. I used a light above and reflectors. I shot at F5 so I had enough DOF, this is important so your eyes are drawn to the butter not the parcel or string.

Eggs

I took this picture at another business, a small little cake company called “Cakes By Becky” which is just round the corner from mine. I already knew I wanted to shoot some raw ingredients and as I watched her make her cakes I was amazed that one of her wedding cakes contained 10 eggs! She had massive trays of eggs and many egg shells so as she cracked her eggs to beat into her cake mixture I collected them and built this sort of tower. I quite like it but then again I don’t think its commercial photography more of Fine Art possible. I’m using this picture for the auction as my mam thinks it would be a nice picture for someone’s kitchen!

Dressing Crab

I LOVE this picture. I just think I have the composition bang on and I love how detailed the crabs are, the dotty tablecloth and how there is interaction with the food! It’s all about selling the experience now not just the final food product. I’m very much hoping this gets chosen for The Journal. However I don’t think it falls into the commercial category I believe it falls into Fine Art maybe? I made this picture portrait and wide so it captures your attention. I love everything about it possibly my favourite image of my portfolio.
